Making friends has always been our “business”

Since the 1980’s, Mike Hopkins Distributing has carried a family legacy of integrity, hard work, and Texas pride. What began as one man’s vision to do right by others has grown into a highly respected business spread throughout Central Texas.

History

Founded in 1989 by Mike Hopkins, Sr., Mike Hopkins Distributing (MHD) is built on the guiding principles of “Making Friends is our Business” and “Pass-it-On.” These core values have helped MHD grow into a leading beverage distributor in Central Texas while continuing to expand its portfolio and invest in the communities it serves.

Mike Sr. learned these core tenets while earning his degree from Texas A&M and serving as a United States Marine. This desire to serve led him to politics and policy, and he was proud to serve as the Executive Director of the Wholesale Beer Distributors of Texas (WBDT) in Austin for nearly 15 years, crafting the current three-tier system that alcohol is regulated under today.

When the opportunity arose to become the “Bud Man of Brenham,” the Hopkins family fully committed to building MHD and beginning the next chapter of their legacy. Mike Sr. believed lasting success was built on doing the right thing for the right reasons — a philosophy that continues to guide the company’s investment in its people, facilities, and local organizations.

Today, Mike Hopkins, Jr. proudly leads MHD as President. Like his father, Mike Jr. earned his business degree from Texas A&M University before beginning his career in public policy, serving on as a staff member for U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady in Washington, D.C. He later earned his MBA from Southern Methodist University before returning to Brenham to work through company-wide leadership rotations. Mike Jr. became President in 2012 and continues to carry forward the values and culture that have defined MHD since day one.

Primary service area

Serving the greater Brazos Valley , MHD reaches  across Austin, Washington, Waller, and Lee counties, while spanning into neighboring parts of Burleson and Grimes as well. It’s a wide stretch of Texas, but it’s close-knit by nature. Step into a local store and chances are you’ll spot one of our friendly team members serving the 500+ retail customers across our territory we’re proud to serve.

Community

In Brenham, we’re more than a distributor. We’re neighbors helping build up the community we call home.

We support the causes, organizations, and everyday moments that make our communities stronger. When our neighbors thrive, so do we. Giving back is woven into how MHD was built and why we invest locally. Our team shows up from church pews to fairgrounds, serving Rotary and Fair Clubs, historical societies, chambers, environmental groups, and first responders across the region. Through faith, service, and pride, we stand with the community that stands with us.
